"Editing With Style" – Tara Barnes and Christie House
This workshop offered tips and resources to help make your published content the best it can be. Nothing turns a reader off faster than typos and poor grammar. Editing is about consistency and respect, for both the writer and the reader. Help writers reach their full potential while staying within word count and budget. Tara Barnes @UMWomen is staff editor for the Women's Division and managing editor for Response magazine, and Christie House is editor of New World Outlook magazine for the General Board of Global Ministries.
"Leveraging New Media to Engage Diverse Audiences" – Tom Garrity
Social media is a key element to reaching diverse audiences. "What tools can help you be more effective with your time to impact the people and audiences you want to reach?" Tom Garrity will discuss some existing and emerging tools, such as Klout and Flowtown, to help you connect with your target audiences in a new and unique way. He is owner of Garrity Group, a public relations company in Albuquerque, and was an Emmy winner during his days in TV news. @Tom_Garrity

So much news and information is moving from print to on line; how can we adjust? This workshop aims at helping writers, editors and web developers maximize communication and to write for the 21st century. Leigh Rogers handles public relations and web content for the Women's Division, General Board of Global Ministries, based in New York.
"Content Management Systems: Say Goodbye to the Static Website" – Emily Lewis
A Content Management System (CMS) is a web application designed to help non-geeky people to create, edit and manage a website. A former writer and editor, Emily Lewis currently is a freelance web designer in Albuquerque and is the author of a book, "Microformats Made Simple." And she has tattoos. @emilylewis
"Taking Photographs in Challenging Situations" – Mike DuBose
Mike DuBose has been all over the world telling the story of United Methodist ministries with his camera, and often not in the easiest of circumstances. Currently staff photographer for United Methodist Communications in Nashville, Mike has worked for the Nashville Tennessean, Knoxville News-Sentinel and United Press International. He has a Masters in Applied Photography from Ohio University; his undergraduate degree was in Journalism (from the University of Tennessee). He's also a former UMAC Communicator of the Year.
"You Can Tell the World" with online resources – Dr. Mike Bellah
Learn how to use Facebook, blogs, websites and eBooks to tell your story to the world. Dr. Mike Bellah has published three books and hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles, but his largest audience is on line. Mike's latest book is "Bicycling Through Midlife Crisis."
